the sistercity-life virtual flat is giving a preview!

Our residents from Kiel and San Francisco are currently building their virtual flatshare – this is their progress so far! Best experienced with a VR Headset, but without is also good.

We’ve asked them to tell us how their 2020 has been going. This is the in-progress preview of what they came up with that might best symbolise of how living in 2020 felt like for 5 individuals from these sister cities.

There’s more info to follow! Images, stories, etc etc! For any enquiries you can get in touch with us at annika@sistercity-life.com

If you’d like to get notified when the flat is being finished, please feel free to subscribe to our mailing list!

WHAT IS SISTERCITY LIFE?

The project has been started in October 2020 in the city of Kiel, Germany, as a reaction to the ongoing global pandemic and the resulting restrictions on international cultural exchange.

The political effort of twinnnig cities aims to tighten a global cultural community, to learn from each other and show solidarity and offer help where our Sister Cities face hardships.

The Covid-19 global pandemic has disrupted our social and cultural life significantly and thereby has made it harder for all of us to share stories of our lives within the Sister Cities.

Our pilot project offers 4 people from 2 cities to tell us what their lives are like in 2020 by sharing a common virtual space and create a digital replica of an ordinary item symbolising feats of endurance and perseverance in the face of previously unseen changes within every facet of our societies, be they economical, political, environmental, social or cultural.

These digital artefacts of contemporary Sister City life will be combined in a virtual space that the audience and artists can share with each other in the hope that we can continue to learn from each other’s individual experience of life. To grow, to overcome hardship, to experience solidarity beyond our national city borders and our individual reality tunnels.
